“If it doesn’t spark joy, it’s just not worth it.”

With all the things that are going on the world right now. And us being quarantined in our homes for the next 21 days; there is no better task you can do than cleaning your closet.
Yup, the closet you’ve been avoiding cleaning because you were always too busy. And weekends were for ‘relaxation’. Now is the time and here’s why:
- 21 Days, 24 Hours: YOU HAVE TIME!! LIKE A LOT OF IT. Even if you have assignments and projects to do at home you will still have time. And let’s be honest you are not going to start working on those assignments until the very last day, right? So why not just clean up your wardrobe a little?

- You’ll feel organized: This is like the first step to getting your life together. Just cleaning out your closet, or even your workspace for that matter is going to leave you feeling extremely organized.
- Make space: You know you are going to go out shopping once this is over. So, make sure your new guests have enough space to live in your closet! Declutter that mess, get rid of everything you haven’t worn for over a year because you probably will never wear it again! Find items you can maybe recycle into pillow covers, scrunchies etc. Surf the net for some inspiration.

- Donate it if you don’t want it: what to do with all the clothes you don’t want to transform/are in good condition but not your style/you bought but now are too tight, too loose – donate them! The ones that don’t bring you joy might bring joy to someone else.

- Sell them: If some of those clothes are super new and you haven’t worn them since the day bought them? Just sell them, there are plenty of apps i.e. coutloot, elanic etc on which you can sell your items; and this way you not only get rid of those clothes, but you also earn some pocket money! (which is always great, am I right?)
If these reasons weren’t good enough for you, this one will be.
The garment industry is one of the most polluting in the world. There is a cost behind each dress, jeans, shirts and socks that go unnoticed by us: the cost to the environment. According to the UNEP, it takes 3,781 litres of water to make a pair of jeans which equates to 33.4 kgs of carbon equivalents. If that is the result for just one jean imagine what the environmental cost of your entire wardrobe must be! It is now or never, take small steps, start with not throwing away your clothes think of how you can make the optimum use of it. When shopping, try and not buy fast fashion brands, go thrifty, get creative with the resources you already have, turn your mum’s old saree into a dress, borrow your boyfriend/dad/brother’s T-shirts if he isn’t using them and customise it to suit you. Simply making sure that you are not contributing to the ever-increasing landfill; if even 2/10 people reading this live by it, it’s a start. I, myself am no expert at this yet but I’m trying because I know one day there will be a change and I’ll be proud that I was a part of it!
I hope y’all are washing hands, social distancing, bingeing, eating, sleeping and taking this seriously. Let us do our part and make everyone’s lives easier! With respect to fashion and otherwise.
And lookout for the next blog! It’s all things thrifty!
Until next time!
